POSITION #: 200105EMPLOYMENT SPECIFICS:Full-Time (Exempt Administrative/Professional/Technical Appointment, 260 days), 1.0 FTE. *This is a grant-funded position through the Title V, MI CASA program.POSITION LOCATION: Fort Morgan, COPURPOSE/SUMMARY OF JOB:The MI CASA (MCC Innovating Careers, Access, and Student Achievement) project is funded through a U.S. Department of Education Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Title V grant (Award #: P031S230272). MI CASA (“my house” in Spanish) project intends to help encourage Hispanic and low-income students to feel a sense of welcome and belonging at MCC, ultimately increasing student success, career readiness, and transfer. The ESL Specialist position works to identify the college’s English Language Learners (ELL), analyze their needs, provide direct services, and track progress toward goals. The ESL Specialist shall perform all duties while promoting opportunities for inclusion, expressing the valuing of differences, and regularly demonstrating the college’s commitment to the Guiding Principles.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university. Bilingual in English/Spanish, with an ability to interpret and translate verbal and written material. Have skills and abilities necessary to work with ESL/ELL students. These include but are not limited to the ability to convey complex English language concepts in a way that is understandable to students, patience, adaptability to varied learner styles and speeds, empathy for the learner, and the ability to foster an excellent and supportive teacher-student and advisor-student relationship. Ability to work effectively and positively with a diverse student population, promoting a positive and high energy student experience.Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and ability to exercise judgment and critical thinking toward all communications within the position. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.Exceptional organizational and time management with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events, while meeting established deadlines. Ability to develop working networks with diverse constituencies.Technical and computer skills to support assessment and continuous improvement of retention services.Occasional travel (day, evening, overnight and weekends) throughout the college service area and the state to carry out duties of the position. Occasional long and irregular hours and the ability to participate in evening and weekend commitments as necessary.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and experience with administering career assessments.Experience working in a community college or university setting.Experience working with enterprise software packages such as Banner, EAB Navigate, and student case management software. Experience developing external partnerships, including the creation of transfer agreements and other relevant activities.Experience working in an inclusive learning & working environment and demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, employers, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.Anticipated Start Date: June 2024Salary and Benefits: $43,100 to $49,565 based on education, skills and experience. Candidates with an additional degree may receive an extra base increase. Benefits include health, life, dental insurance, LTD & benefit package including tuition reimbursement in accordance with Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System policies.
