Chief Information Officer / Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Systems & Digital Strategy
Howard Cribbs serves as Chief Information Officer and Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Systems & Digital Strategy for the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). In this role, he leads enterprise technology strategy, digital transformation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence governance, data strategy, and technology modernization efforts across Colorado’s 13 community colleges and more than 35 locations serving over 130,000 students annually.
Howard brings more than 15 years of executive technology leadership experience across higher education, government, and global technology organizations. Prior to joining CCCS, he served as IT Director for the Colorado Governor’s Office through the Office of Information Technology, where he led enterprise technology initiatives in a complex public-sector environment. He brings extensive experience leading enterprise technology modernization, cybersecurity, cloud transformation, data governance, and artificial intelligence initiatives across both public- and private-sector organizations.
Earlier, Howard served as Global Chief Information Officer for SANS Institute, a worldwide cybersecurity education and certification organization, where he led large-scale digital transformation efforts, enterprise systems modernization, cloud migration, artificial intelligence initiatives, and technology governance across seven global divisions. Before SANS, he held senior technology leadership positions with EMC/Dell Technologies and NetApp, and previously served as Vice President and CIO for Great American Insurance’s Mid-Continent Division.
Throughout his career, Howard has focused on building secure, scalable, and innovative technology ecosystems that improve organizational performance, strengthen workforce development, and expand access to educational opportunity. He serves in leadership roles with the Colorado Technology Association, supports student learning through Junior Achievement, and has served on the boards of several technology and artificial intelligence organizations.
