The Bilingual Recruitment & Admissions Specialist supports prospective Spanish speaking students and their support networks in all aspects of the recruitment, admissions, and enrollment process at Pikes Peak State College.

The Bilingual Recruitment & Admissions Specialist (College Recruiter) supports prospective Spanish speaking students and their support networks in all aspects of the recruitment, admissions, and enrollment process at Pikes Peak State College. Supporting Spanish speaking students and their families is key to supporting Pikes Peak State College’s goal of becoming and remaining an official Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). This position is for a bilingual Spanish/English speaker.

The Bilingual Recruitment and Admissions Specialist builds awareness about the college, academic programs offered at the college, and provides detailed information about the college’s enrollment process. The position advises and guides prospective students through the process of becoming a PPSC student. This position develops and implements virtual, off-campus, and on-campus programming for outreach in high schools, the community, college fairs, and other recruitment programs. The Bilingual Recruitment and Admissions Specialist works on a team within Student Services to support the mission of Pikes Peak State College.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Bilingual Services

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed associate’s degree or higher degree OR two years professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
  • Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in English and Spanish with demonstrated experience with English to Spanish translation and interpretation.
  • Experience in recruitment, sales, admissions, customer service, enrollment, student services, marketing, advising, public relations, student counseling, or a related field.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking and presenting information to large groups.
  • Demonstrated recruitment experience in high school or higher education.
  • Experience in a community college setting.

Essential Functions

Recruitment & Outreach

  • Act as a point of contact for Spanish speaking prospective students and their families. Meet with students for recruitment and admission to the college by taking appointments in-person, virtually, and on a walk-in basis. Advise students on the benefits of attending PPSC, assist them with completing the admission application, applying for and authorizing COF, navigating tuition classification statutes and processes including ASSET and DACA procedures, understanding and applying for available financial resources (Open scholarship, CASFA, FAFSA), and advise students on the enrollment and registration process. Advise and enroll students in the ESL program and act as a key contact with the ESL department for prospective students. Build relationships with high school and community partners to offer recruitment and outreach services in local high schools and throughout the community to support access to higher education. This role communicates with students in-person, over email, phone, and via text messaging in both English and Spanish.

On-Campus Events and Programming

Deliver on-campus recruitment programming and events like group presentations to prospective students, campus visits and tours, and information sessions for Spanish speaking prospective students and their families. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to highlight academic pathways to prospective students.

Translation & Interpretation

Provide translation and interpretation for English/Spanish written and verbal communication within the department of Admissions, Recruitment, and Enrollment Services. Translate English to Spanish written content for the PPSC website, promotional flyers, emails, newsletters, etc. Provide interpretation services when a Spanish speaking student or family member is interacting with staff in the department who only speak English.

Other Admissions, Recruitment, and Enrollment Services

Activities Participates in Admissions, Recruitment, and Enrollment activities. Serves on college-wide teams and committees as requested. Attends pertinent professional development workshops/conferences. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Bilingual Proficiency: Proficient in both English and Spanish, ensuring clear and effective communication with diverse populations.
  • Higher Education Knowledge: Familiarity with student services in higher education, with an emphasis on student recruitment and outreach tailored to diverse linguistic communities.
  • Recruitment Expertise: In-depth knowledge of both traditional and non-traditional bilingual recruitment methods and strategies, catering to Spanish-speaking populations.
  • Undocumented Student Status Support: Knowledge of state laws, college policies, resources, and services relevant to supporting undocumented students.
  • Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work seamlessly both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Technology Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with student information systems and customer relationship management systems. Daily proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to design, create, and maintain bilingual forms, reference materials, databases, and training resources. Proficiency with social media and messaging applications.
  • Project Management: Aptitude for effectively prioritizing and managing multiple bilingual projects, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.
  • Location Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work at all four main PPSC locations (Centennial Campus, CHES, Downtown Campus, Rampart Range Campus), and throughout the Pikes Peak region for recruitment purposes.
  • Transportation: Ability to travel throughout the region and state for recruitment purposes.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide high quality customer service.
