A digital badge is a visual, shareable and verifiable credential that represents a skill, achievement or experience. Unlike traditional certifications or transcripts, digital badges are rich with metadata—offering evidence of learning, assessment criteria, issuer information and more.

Badges can recognize:

  • Formal learning (e.g., courses or certifications)
  • Informal learning (e.g., workshops, on-the-job experience)
  • Soft skills and technical competencies

Each badge includes:

  • Recipient’s name
  • Issuer
  • Criteria for earning the badge
  • Evidence and expiration (if applicable)
