Dr. Chato Hazelbaker, president of Pueblo Community College, to serve as interim president of Trinidad State College, effective March 7, 2026
This morning, Chancellor DeSanctis shared an exciting update regarding leadership at Trinidad State College as President Rhonda Epper prepares to conclude her service in March.
After careful consideration, the Chancellor has appointed Dr. Chato Hazelbaker, president of Pueblo Community College, to serve as interim president of Trinidad State College, effective March 7. This decision was made thoughtfully and with the best interests of Trinidad State College, and our System, at the forefront.
This appointment provides experienced, short-term leadership support—anticipated to span approximately four months—while the TSC president search moves forward and should not be read as signaling any change to the structure or independence of Trinidad State College.
This moment reflects the Power of 13 in action: a system built on collaboration, not competition, and strengthened by leaders who support one another when it matters most.
Each of CCCS’s thirteen colleges is distinct, shaped by the communities it serves. Together, they form a system that is bolder, more resilient, and more impactful than any single institution alone.
This culture of collaboration didn’t happen by accident. It has been intentionally built through strong leadership, shared trust, and a commitment to leveraging collective strengths. Our college presidents represent a remarkably diverse, highly capable group of leaders who actively support one another, creating opportunities to grow enrollment, improve quality, and create efficiencies through shared resources and aligned practices.
With strong leaders and teams across the system, CCCS is well positioned to ensure momentum, stability, and care during times of transition.
It’s within this collaborative framework that Dr. Hazelbaker will step into the interim role, bringing experience, care, and steady leadership to Trinidad State College during this transition. He approaches this appointment with a clear understanding of its purpose and a commitment to maintaining momentum while the presidential search continues. The Chancellor is equally confident in his leadership, judgment, and dedication to serving the System when needed.
Trinidad State College also brings significant strength to this moment. The college has a talented leadership team, as well as faculty and staff who are deeply committed to their students and community. Their continued work will ensure that current initiatives move forward with stability and purpose throughout this interim period.
