A direct path to a career in engineering

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) has partnered with Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, and University of Colorado to offer the Associate in Engineering Science (AES) degree. This AES degree serves as a direct track for engineering students from a community college to a university, streamlining the transfer process.

Benefits to Students

CCCS students who complete the AES degree will have access to:

  • A streamlined transfer process to a participating four-year university after acceptance.
  • Cost savings from completing your first two years of a four-year degree at a community college.
  • Scholarship opportunities to make your degree path even more affordable.

How to Apply

For students new to a CCCS college:
Indicate that you want to start your AES degree on a participating CCCS college application.

For existing CCCS students:
You can switch to the AES program by contacting your community college advisor.

Requirements

There are no requirements for students to start their AES degree at a Colorado community college! Any college algebra ready student may start the program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I earn an AES, does it guarantee admission to a participating university?

Earning an AES degree does not guarantee admission to participating universities. However, along with college advising and instructor recommendations, this AES degree will strengthen any student's application.

Is the AES a Degree with Designation?

The degree is similar to a DwD in that it fulfills the necessary 60 credits a student needs to request transfer, and all credits will transfer upon acceptance.

There are two key differences:

  1. The AES does not fulfill the GT core as is required for DwDs, due to the specific university standards.
  2. While the AES degree greatly boosts a student’s chance of admission, it does not guarantee admission.
Does an AES guarantee transfer of all credits to any college if I don't enter the AES program at a participating university?

Most credits will transfer as they are Guaranteed Transfer courses, but some would be at the discretion of the receiving institution. CCCS encourages all students to seek guidance from an advisor before transferring.

Will an AES help in getting a job if I opt not to transfer?

This AES degree, like all degrees at CCCS, is designed to help students with whatever path they choose, whether entering the workforce directly or going on to further postsecondary education.
