Dr. Michael A. Schulman
Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Michael A. Schulman, Ed.D. serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. In this role, he provides comprehensive leadership across all facets of student affairs, strategic enrollment management, and student technology initiatives. Michael also represents the system at various state agencies and statewide councils, and oversees student organization functions, including the State Student Advisory Council (SSAC). Michael is dedicated to advancing equity, access, and inclusion. He collaborates closely with colleges and system staff to support their efforts in achieving equitable student outcomes and overall student success.
Michael brings over two decades of experience in diverse higher education leadership roles. His extensive background encompasses managing student finance, enrollment services, financial aid, auxiliary services, and information technology. Michael has contributed his expertise to multiple systems, community colleges, and public and private universities nationwide. Throughout his career, Michael has spearheaded numerous strategic initiatives. Notably, he was one of the first in the nation to reform academic standing policies, by shifting from a progressively punitive model to a proactive, supportive framework.
Michael is passionate about building collaborative partnerships to support student success, exemplified by the Bridge to Bachelor’s degree program. He actively engages in the reform of policies and practices to address equity gaps and promote student achievement. Furthermore, he empowers student leaders to participate meaningfully in college administration and to shape their future professional trajectories. Michael has spoken at the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students on transformative partnerships. He has also received the Western Governors University Elevate Award and the EAB’s Technology Pioneer Award.
Michael holds a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Leadership for Educational Equity from the University of Colorado Denver, a Master of Science in Student Affairs Administration from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
