The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is proud to announce that Ross Dueber, Ph.D., and Karen McNeil-Miller, Ed.D., have been confirmed by the State Legislature to serve on the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE), an 11-member body that oversees CCCS, through December 2025. “I’m honored to join the board and look forward to contributing towards the advancement of life-enhancing, higher education and training for the citizens of our state,” said Dr. Deuber.

Dr. McNeil-Miller is the current president and CEO of the Colorado Health Foundation and a former special education teacher. She will serve as a liaison to Arapahoe Community College. Read her biography here.

“Providing quality and equitable educational opportunities to Coloradans through our community college ecosystem is a critical pathway that provides lasting benefits and access to opportunities for individuals and families all over our state,” said Dr. McNeil-Miller. “I know for sure, as I’m a graduate from a community college in North Carolina. I am humbled and honored to be part of the SBCCOE moving forward.”

The SBCCOE is charged with overseeing the mission and vision of Colorado’s 13 community colleges and system office, as well as the distribution of federal and state dollars that fund career and technical education in secondary and postsecondary schools. Board members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Colorado Senate, serving staggered four-year terms.

“On behalf of CCCS and our students, I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Dueber and Dr. McNeil-Miller to our board,” said Joe Garcia, chancellor or CCCS. “Both can personally attest to the power of education and are outstanding advocates for our open access mission. Their expertise will be invaluable as we advance affordable education and training for all Coloradans.”

Nine of the members represent Colorado’s seven congressional districts, and two serve as at-large members. The board also dedicates two non-voting seats for a faculty member and student representative, who serve one-year terms.
